Kollywood actress Anjali acts brilliantly in "Katradhu Tamil"

Debutant Kollywood actress Anjali played a cameo in a good Tamil movie "Katrathu Tamil"."Katrathu Tamil" is an off-beat film which has been made with a high cinematic skill and great imagination. It is an engrossing tale of a man agonizing for the cause of his mother-tongue, Tamil, which is in the decline. Debutant director Rama Subbu (shortly, Ram) has taken up a lofty theme which is relevant to the present context of growing inequalities in all walks of life and captures it in a manner that touches the hearts of the audience. Ram, an associate of director Balu Mahendra, has tried to show the ordeals faced by a youth who is a post-graduate in Tamil language in getting a job and his disillusions. His travails eventually turn him a killer.

Can pursuing your passion for arts push you to disappointment, insanity or make you a victim of discrimination? If you think passion can ensconce you in a glorious and resplendent world, then think again! The rosy dreams might lead to disillusionment in the world driven by IT/BPO industries, says Katradhu Tamil .

The film comes as a breath of fresh air at a time when Tamil audiences are bored to death with formulaic films. Movies like "Katrathu Tamil" are few and far between and surely Ram's is a bold attempt in Tamil cinema. This is Jeeva's 9th film and pairing with him is a new face, Anjali, who proves equal to the task. Jeeva appears in three get-ups marking three different phases in his life laden with a swirl of emotions and pathos. His involvement with the character is total and his scintillating performance is what sets "Kattrathu Tamizh" apart from the ordinary. The film has all the ingredients to make it big.

The film, which takes you through the journey of protagonist Prabhakaran (Jeeva) portrays an appalling reality. Prabhakaran is a post-graduate in Tamil, who expresses great love for the language and is firm in pursuing his dream. Jeered for being a Tamil teacher who earns a mere Rs 2,000 a month, he finds solace in his childhood sweetheart Anandhi (Anjali). But fate has many unpleasant turns in store for him.
His interaction with a friend who earns Rs 2 lakh in the IT industry brings out the inequities existing in the system.

Poverty-stricken Anandhi is forced into prostitution. The hero loses track of her, which adds to frustration and makes him insane.
A pot-pourri of art and commercial elements, Katradhu Tamil tries to touch upon different social issues, especially the divide between the haves and have-nots . The director has also meticulously worked on the discrimination plaguing IT world.

Jeeva captivates the audience. His facile expressions give a natural touch to the character as he has worked his movements with precision. New entrant Anjali acts with ease. Though the convoluted script and inconsistency in the pace test your patience, it is the charm of both Jeeva and Anjali that help you sit through the movie. Amazing cinematography by Ramji and enchanting music by Yuvan Shankar Raja also keep you glued.
